Export Data from Azure Active Directory to PowerBI Usage Metrics or Log Analytics Workspace

Hi all!

Currently I am using a Usage Metrics Report to collect and analyze data about the report users and also collecting data within a Log Analytics Worskpace. Regarding User Scope I am only receiving the User Email. My need to is to extend this data and also get additional data from the Azure Active Directory of this User.

Is there any possibility to extend the Dataset behind the Usage Metrics Report or send additional User Data to the Log Analytics Workspace?

Looking forward for any hints!

Hi @v-yueyunzh-msft  and thank you for your answer!

I already tried this approach, however the User Metrics Report is already displaying all the available User Data from the Dataset and there is nothing more to add. I would have expected that I can select further User Data to be added to the User Metrics Report as this data is available behind the User Profile. Means for me that there is no "easy" solution for that other than add a new dataset and connect it to the current one.

Best regards

Andreas

Hi , @lizard91

Depending on your needs, it seems that you want to do some extension of user data or dataset extension by connecting to the DataSet of PowerBI Usage Metrics, I think you can first try to connect to your PowerBI Usage Metrics dataset from desktop by following this link:

Monitor usage metrics in workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Then refer to this link to convert the schema of the live conection linked dataset to DIrect query, and then you can connect some data from other data sources according to your needs, and support the establishment of some relationships between tables and the creation of visuals:
Using DirectQuery for datasets and Analysis Services (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Thank you for your time and sharing, and thank you for your support and understanding of PowerBI!
