Excel from onedrive as a source - WEB/URL credentials - OAuth2 - data source vs. gateway clusters

Hi.

I am not sure if this is mistake or not... but I would like share this information, maybe somebody will explain it to me :-).

I added excel as url link from my one-drive to Powerbi. Now I wanted set up source at the on-premises gateway - service.

There is data source credentials for url source - my weblink to onedrive excel. There is OAuth2 which is need to make verification. It works, I am happy :-).

But If I wanted set up this source in gateway clusters, there is WEB source but there is no OAuth2 verification, so it can not be verified. I tried use also sharepoint source but it doesnt help me.

So, there is no problem, if I set source in data sources.  I am just wonder why I can not set up it in the gateway clusters, like my other sources. Maybe I just dont understand well the difference between data source credentials and gateywas clusters, or maybe there is just missing OAuth2 verification in WEB source in gateway clusters.

Hi @ludovit8,

Why do you want to add your data source from onedrive to data gateway in Power BI Service? As I know, the online data source don't need to configure the date gateway.

For your scenario, do you mean that you get data with web conncetor by OAuth2 in Power BI Desktop, but when you add the data source in gateway, there is no OAuth2 option for you to choose?

By my tests, I can only see the option list below in Power BI Desktop with web conncetor.

If it is convenient, could you share your data credential in Power BI Desktop. You could find it by clicking Edit Queries>> Data source settings>>Edit Permissions.

In addition, do you edit Credentials under Dataset in Power BI Service?

There is OAuth2 in setting data source - url to onedrive file. 

But no it gateway cluster  (but I am not sure if it should be also here).

hi... I have similar problem.

I used in powerbi desktop source Access for file in onedrive.  And it works.

But if I am trying to set up gateway/cluster in powerbi cloud, that is not source Access. So I tried user WEB source and my onedrive logins, but it doesnt works.  What source should I choose in gateways in bi cloud?

Hi @ludovit8,

Firstly, if you use on-premises data gateway, the OAuth2 is not supported in it for web source.

Acutally, you could tick this option Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster so that you don't need to configure the web source to on-premises gateway as the web source for onedrive is the online source.
