Error fetching data for this visual

Hello,

when I run my report in Power BI desktop everything works fine, but when I run it in Power BI service I get the error message "

Error fetching data for this visual. Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later. Please try again later or contact support."

I have:

- re-created the visuals

- deleted 50% the visuals (I have a total of 8 new Cards, and I deleted 4 of them)

- Checked the credentials

- Updated my stand-alone Gateway

- Updated my Power BI desktop program

But the error message is still there. Does anyone have any idea how to progress?Error.png

This is really strange. All of a sudden it started to work again, without me knowingly having changed anything... Thanks for all involved in this issue.

Hi @spehe
Since the issue occurs in Service but not in Desktop, and it's related to the new card visual in Import Mode,
Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Refresh the dataset manually and review the refresh history for any errors.
  • Try using a basic card visual instead of the new card visual to see if it works.
  • Make sure the dataset size does not exceed the 1 GB per dataset limit in Power BI Service.
  • Verify that all fields used in the card visual exist and are correctly referenced.
  • Create a new Power BI file, add the new card visual, and publish it separately to test.
  • If using a gateway, double-check the credentials and settings under Manage Gateway & Data Sources.
  • Publish the report using the January 2025 version of Power BI Desktop and test again.
  • If the issue persists, try replacing the new card visual with a standard card or KPI visual.

If the above information helps you, please give us a Kudos and marked the Accept as a solution.

Which version of Power BI desktop are you running (32 or 64)?

What type of visual is failing?  It’s the new card visual? Not a custom visual?

Import mode or Direct Query?

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your interest.

Version: 2.140.1205.0 64-bit (februari 2025)

It's the new card visual that is failing

Import mode
