Hi,
The PBIX is working fine on the Power BI Desktop app. But as soon as I publish it as report this error comes up- Error fetching data for this visual. This error started coming last week. Before that I had several versions that were working fine. But now none of those published versions are working. The data source to this report is the SharePoint Folder. Kindly help.

Hi Ibendlin,
Thanks for the help.
It was a bug. I rebuild every visual with the error and now it is working fine. The bug was specially in the bar charts.
Hello,
I know this post is from September 24, but is anyone still having this error? I am having the opposite happen to me whenever I have two or measures in one visual. All of the relationships are correct, but interestingly enough, mine displays this error in Power Bi desktop but works just fine in the Online Service. So the opposite of everyone else here! Thoughts?
Any resolution on this. A report that I built and have been using for a while, no longer displays any visuals that contain a measure in the data or in the title. I can write a super basic test measure and add to a card and I get an error fetching data.
Weirdly, they work perfect when I published to Power BI service.
Its completely stopped me being able to make amendments or add new items using measures
Following this post to see if there is an update on the solution.... I encountered this issue too when I am on the desktop app. There were no errors showing in the published version.
I have just recently upgraded my PBI version to the Jan 30th 2025 release. 2.139.2054.0
Since upgrading to the current version you are also on, I haven't run into this issue. Have you tried re-adding/completely rebuilding the measures? If you would like, please provide some details and I can try to help!
Hi,
I'm also running into the same issue, my current powerbi version is 2.139.1678.0 (32bit). In my case, when I have 2 or more types of data selected, i will receive the error "Error fetching data for this visual".
For example, selecting line and clustered columned chart, X-axis is by month (Jan, Feb, Mar etc), while Column Y-axis is the QTY for the whole 2024. In this scenario, the visual data still works. But when I add another data of Sales Amount under the column Y-axis, error will show. But if I remove QTY and just select sales amount, the data will still show. I also tried using other visual, and the result is the same for visuals such as "Table" or "Line Chart".
I don't have the luxury to change to 64bit, since I need to use other softwares such as Microsoft Access and Excel (32bit), If i change to 64bit, I cannot import the data properly. Can't upgrade the other softwares to 64bit as well, company property. What's strange is other users with 32bit powerbi and the same update does not encounter the same issue as I do. Tried reinstalling, upgrading the patch, and rebuilding the measures. I also excluded the possibility of gateway connection/ user permission, since there is none.
Kindly advice, thanks.
Hi @DataIsCool Thanks for your responses and kind gesture to help. I managed to resolve the issue at the end of my day yesterday.
As I am on a work provided laptop with a software catalogue, and we don't always get the very latest updates pushed through, I installed a new version. Unsure if it was a different 'bit', eg, from 32 to 64 but it worked. As soon as I re opened the file my visuals were back in full form 🙂
I installed (x64) 2.139.1678.0
@Han_PBI, give this a go, hopefully works for you
Thanks again @DataIsCool
I also try and do as much as I can in SQL and PQ, love PQ, not much of a DAX fan so generally keep things pretty basic in that area, just scalar values mostly 🙂
Hi Damian,
Thank you very much for bringing up the bit difference. I completley forgot, I had also switched from a 32bit version to the 64bit. November 2024 32x to January 2025 64x to be exact. This most be where the problem is coming from!
Hi Damian,
This is the exact issue I was running into.
Unfortunatley there has been no fix for this in the November version. I ended up upgrading to the Jan version last week and everything seems fine on the newer version, also haven't ran into any bugs on it yet (fingers crossed)
My external users (with personal email addresses) too reported this error this morning which is yet to be fixed. I have no issue viewing the visuals using my company account.
This is happening in my company as well, started around 10 days ago. Everything was working fine, now suddenly the users get "error fetching data".
I think rebuilding is not a proper fix. Any other idea?
I am receiving the same error in a published model. The model connects via direct queries to a number of Poweri monitors in other countries for which I have been granted access to their sematic models. This seems to be an intermittent issue. Everything is fine for a moment and then a few hours later the error appears again. In addition I am able to loade the monitor without any errors and a few colleagues can load the model without any errors, however when people in some other countries try and load the report they have the intermittent issue.
Any ideas what thsi could e?
Hi!
I do have the same issue when someone else from the company, except for me, access to the report on PowerBI Service online.
Did you solve the issue?
Thank you
Hi!
There was a bug in the visual. I rebuild every visual and it is working fine now.
For your case, I am not sure what is the issue but you can check your gateway connection of the data and its access outside org.
I think this would help.
Hi!
I solved the issue last week, indeed it was a gateway connection issue due to missing permission from user's side.
Thank you anyway for your help!
Cheers
Hi ale bat, could you shed some light on what permission you adjusted? I narrowed it down to a gateway issue.. report or dataset permission, RLS or general server IP permissions?
Use Performance Monitor in Power BI Desktop to get the DAX query for one of the offending visuals. Use DAX Studio to connect to the semantic model. Run the DAX query there and examine the query plan and server timings.
