Error fetching data for this visual - Mobile Layout

I have a report I built in Desktop where one tab has a mobile layout view. This is working fine in the desktop with no errors. When I publish this to the service, my report has errors on a few of the visuals in the mobile view. All of visuals with the errors are new card visuals. I have tested through the app and browser and both have the same issues.

Again this is only happening to the mobile layout and these visuals work fine in the desktop layout (both in the app and on a browser).

Anyone else experienced this or know what the solution is?

Thanks for your help. I removed all the conditional formatting from the cards and it solved the issue for now (although I don't have the conditional formatting now).

Hi @Brett12345   @Koy

Because I have so little information at this time, I can't tell what's causing your problem. You can create a support ticket for free and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.

It would be great if you continue to share in this issue to help others with similar problems after you know the root cause or solution.

I am having similar issue. I have 6 cards on a page, and they all work great in desktop, but when published to premium service, only 2 of them work... I have deleted and rebuilt numerous times, and I could swear they were working 2 weeks ago.

1. Check Compatibility of Mobile Layout

Power BI Service and the Power BI Desktop mobile layout renderer sometimes behave differently, which can lead to issues when publishing. It’s worth reviewing the compatibility of the visuals specifically for mobile:

  • Resize visuals in the mobile layout: Sometimes, card visuals can cause errors if their size in the mobile layout is too small or outside the mobile canvas. Try resizing them within the Power BI Service mobile layout editor (available in the Power BI Service itself) and make sure they are appropriately placed.

2. Rebuild Card Visuals in Power BI Desktop

There could be issues with the specific card visuals you created in Desktop. To troubleshoot:

  • Delete the card visuals with errors in the mobile view and rebuild them from scratch in Power BI Desktop.
  • Republish the report after this step to see if the issue persists.

3. Clear Mobile Layout Settings and Rebuild

Mobile layout settings can sometimes cause unexpected behavior after publishing. To reset them:

  • Open your report in Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to the Mobile Layout view.
  • Remove all visuals from the mobile layout (clear the layout).
  • Re-add each visual, including the card visuals.
  • Save and republish the report.

4. Clear Cache in Power BI Service and Power BI Mobile App

If the error still appears after republishing, try clearing the cache for both the Power BI Service and the Power BI mobile app:

  • In the Power BI Service (browser), clear your browser cache or use a different browser.
  • In the Power BI mobile app, go to Settings > Storage > Clear Cache.

5. Test in Different Devices

If the mobile layout works well in Power BI Desktop but not in the Service, there could be an issue with device compatibility:

  • Test the report on a different device (Android, iPhone, tablet).
  • Make sure that the visuals are properly optimized for mobile devices.

6. Check for Service Updates or Known Issues

Sometimes, mobile-specific issues are due to Power BI Service updates or bugs:

  • Check for any known issues related to Power BI mobile on Microsoft’s Power BI support page.
  • If it's a bug, it may be temporarily affecting mobile rendering. You can check if others are facing similar issues in the Power BI Community forums.

7. Check for Conditional Formatting or Complex DAX in Card Visuals

If your card visuals have complex conditional formatting or DAX measures, this might behave differently in the mobile view:

  • Simplify the card visuals by removing any formatting or unnecessary DAX logic to see if that resolves the issue.
  • If removing conditional formatting resolves the issue, you may need to apply simpler formatting for mobile layouts.

I did all of the above and it still wasn't working. So I checked step by step which part causes these visuals to break. On some of the reference labels I did conditional formatting to make the font red when it is negative. It works fine in the desktop view but causes the issues in the mobile view. This seems like a bug to me.

Hi @Brett12345

Based on my testing, the issue did not reproduce. Could you please provide a sample PBIX file that can reproduce the issue, as well as the version number of Power BI Desktop you are using?

Sorry I cannot share what I have because of our organizational policies. When I try to reproduce, essentially I find if you put conditional formatting on one font color for one reference value it works ok but as soon as I added conditional formatting to the second reference value font color it would give the error.
