I had a query from a user who was trying to use the Get Data function in Excel to connect to an XMLA dataset. In replicating the issue I (as an Admin on the dataset) received the same error:
'Cannot create the PivotTable An error has occurred creating the PivotTable. Please make sure you have permissions to the data, the model is valid and the credentials are correct.'
I can connect without issue to on-prem datasets. I also attempted to attack this from the Power BI 'end' and used the Analyse in Excel function from the dataset in the PBI service. Excel opens but nothing ever populates in the PivotTable fields.
Both Allow Live Connections and Allow XMLA endpoints and Analyze in Excel with on-premises datasets are enabled for the entire organization.
Much appreciate any help. Thanks
can you confirm that you both have Build permissions against the app or dataset?
Yes, I'm Admin. Thanks
That's not exactly what I asked, but it likely is sufficient. If you have a Pro license you can consider raising a Pro ticket at https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/support/pro/
