Hi @joseenrique ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

If you're encountering an error connecting Power BI to SQL Server Express, the issue could be from a number of areas including network settings, authentication, or SQL Server configuration.

Here are some possible solutions:

1) Check the Server Name - Ensure you're using the correct format, such as ServerName\SQLEXPRESS or localhost\SQLEXPRESS
2) Ensure SQL Server is Running - Open SQL Server Configuration Manager and confirm that the SQLExpress instance is active.
3) Enable TCP/IP Protocol – In SQL Server Configuration Manager, go to SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocols for SQLEXPRESS and enable TCP/IP
4) If using SQL Server authentication, verify that the credentials are correct.
5) Make sure SQL Server is allowed through your firewall.
6) If you see an SSL-related issue, then check whether the certification chain is trusted.
7) If connecting remotely, ensure SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

Try this troubleshooting options, If your issue did not get resolved, please provide a detailed error message, that will help pinpoint the root cause.

If this post helps, please give us Kudos and consider marking it Accept as solution to assist other members in finding it more easily.

Regards,
Chaithra.
