Error Refreshing with Dual Connection - SQL via Gateway and SharePointList via Cloud Connect
I'm getting an error on nightly refresh for my Semantic Model as follows:
Data source error{"error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","pbi.error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error_Details_Label","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Cloud data source refresh is not allowed in gateway setting."}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}}
I can see belowt that the issue is my SharePointList is set up to use both the Gateway and Cloud connection. What I don't know is how to fix it.
I have tried deleting the sharepoint credentials and republishing (using both Windows and Microsoft Account)
I've tried publishing to a new workspace
This SharePoint list keeps showing up in the Gateway Connections when I already have it correctly set up under Cloud.
Can someone offer me a tip to set this right?
Thank you,
Sarah
Check if this option is set on your gateway
Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
But in general you don't need a gateway for Sharepoint sources. What version of the gateway are you running?

This was the magic. I am not the admin, so I had to request this change, but it worked! Thank you.

You can try the steps below. This issue usually happens when a cloud data source is still accidentally tied to the on-premises gateway.
The error message:
“Cloud data source refresh is not allowed in gateway setting”
basically means that your SharePoint Online source is being routed through the gateway, which isn’t supported in Fabric / Premium. SharePoint needs to refresh directly through a cloud connection, not via a gateway.
Try Below Steps:
1. Remove SharePoint from the Gateway
- Go to Power BI Service → Manage connections and gateways
- Open your gateway
- Under Data Sources, delete the SharePoint / Web / OData entry
2. Connect SharePoint as a Cloud source
- Open your Semantic Model → Settings → Data source credentials
- Sign in to SharePoint using your Organizational Account
- Make sure:
- Gateway = Not used
- Connection type = Cloud
3. If it still keeps using the gateway
Sometimes this happens if the SharePoint source was created using Web/OData in Power BI Desktop.
In that case:- Recreate the source using Get Data → SharePoint Online List
- Republish the model and re-enter your credentials
Once SharePoint is fully disconnected from the gateway, the scheduled refresh should work without errors.
