This, updating on demand presents the error and also in scheduled updates. In no way am I successful. I've searched a lot on the internet and haven't found a solution. The error is generic and does not indicate the cause.

I understand your question because at first I also thought it was that, but in the gateway configuration, credentials are already validated and if they are incorrect, it is pointed out.
