Enterprise Gateway Service stops when configuring a Data Source

I just installed the latest Enterprise Gateway (5/10/2016). It's a crap shoot as to weather it will accept the connection info when configuring a new Data Source. Most times I see that clicking the Apply button causes the Service to stop and I have to re-start it quickly. It worked OK ONCE, then I deleted that Data Source and tried it again WITH THE SAME SETTINGS, no dice.

I have verified the following:

  • I am a member of the Local Administrator's Group
  • The service account for the Gateway Service had rights to "Log on as a service"
  • Appropirate outbound Ports are open on the firewall.

Strange thing noticed: According to this page https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-enterprise-tshoot/ at the bottom, I should see entries in Application and Service Logs > Power BI Gateway - Enterprise Service. I don't. I see just above that "PowerBIAsConnector" which a) I didn't think I had installed and b) has errors dated for today. I also see "Data Management Gateway" with errors from two weeks ago. But in Power BI Gateway - Enterprise Service? NOTHING. Oh, there's log files in the folder C:\Users\PBIEgwService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Enterprise Gateway, but nothing shows up in Event Viewer.

I have had nothing but trouble keeping the Enterprise Gateway running on this machine. It shouldn't matter that it's a) a laptop b) has wireless capabilities, and c) is running Windows 10, should it?
