Encountering Invalid Credentials Error Despite Valid Credentials for SharePoint

Hello Community,

I'm getting the below error on Power BI services for the SharePoint data source but I'm using the same credentials on Deskop and it's working completely fine. I tried to edit the credentials from services directly using the edit credentials option but had no luck it took a lot of refreshing time and at last, it failed.

"The credentials provided for the SharePoint source are invalid."

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

When you publish a report that uses a SharePoint source, you have to enter the credentials in the web service in the data refresh settings before it will refresh. If you don't do this step, you will get the error you are receiving. Power BI doesn't automatically grab the credentials of the account you want to use unless you're using a gateway.

@christinepayton Thank you for the advice. I am trying to implement your suggestion but "(Admin has granted access, credentials are not required)". Is there any other way around this? Credentials within the Desktop is successful with refreshes. Not while published. Please let me know your thoughts.

That sounds like you are using a gateway for the connection and the gateway connection has invalid credentials. Try either opting not to use a gateway (it's not required for SharePoint Online) or contacting your admin and having them fix the credentials in connection settings for the gateway.
