Embedded Power BI App Only Shows One Section—Missing Embedded Reports from Other Workspaces

Hello everyone,

I have a Power BI app with two sections:

  1. The first section contains a report based on a dataset stored in my workspace, where the app is also located.
  2. The second section includes two embedded reports from other workspaces, shared by different users.

When I view the app on the Power BI service, both sections display correctly. However, when I embed the app in my UI application using the generated embed link, only the first section is visible—the second section with the external embedded reports does not appear.

Why is this happening, and how can I ensure that both sections are properly displayed when embedding the app?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi. Power BI Apps are not embedded content. You can only embed reports and dashboards to a web app. If you want your UI to look like the PowerBi App it's on you to build a navigation bar and menu to embed each report individually.

I hope that make sense.

Hi @Anonymous ,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft Fabric Forum Community,

As mentioned by @ibarrau , there seems to be no other solution at this time, as Power BI Apps cannot be embedded. The documentation confirms that embedding is supported for individual reports and dashboards.

Implementing a custom navigation bar could involve additional work, but this approach will provide you the flexibility to create a seamless user experience by embedding reports individually, even from different workspaces.

Hi. The embedding feature is built for taking power bi to custom apps or third party tools. It's not for moving to a power bi app. If you want to show three reports in a Power Bi App, just put all of them together in the same Workspace. Then build the Power Bi App with the correct audiences to distribute them. That's how the tool was built for.

The PowerBi Apps can only contain reports from the workspace they are linked.

I hope that helps,

Hi @ibarrau , thanks for your response!

I am using the embedding feature to actually embed the report into the UI of my third party application. Howerver, the problem is, when I view the Power BI App on the Power BI Service, both sections (my report + related reports that are links to reports from other workspaces) display correctly. But when I use the embedding feature to integrate the app into my UI application, only the report from my workspace is visible— the linked reports from other workspaces do not appear.

Is there a way to ensure that all sections, including the linked reports, are visible when embedding the Power BI App into an external application?

Hi @ibarrau

I see what you mean, but I thought there was a difference between embedding a Power BI report and embedding a Power BI App into a web application. The generated embed links are different depending on whether they come from the report or the Power BI App (as shown in the image).

Using a custom navigation bar in my web app is my backup option, but that would require involving front-end developers and additional work. I was hoping to avoid that if possible.

Thanks for the suggestion—I'll likely need to go that route if there's no other solution.

There is no other solution. Power Bi Apps can't be embedded. The docs specify the content you can embed and it's just dashboards and reports. It talks about semantic models and operations, but that's all. The embed is report by report.

Regards.
