Embed report in external SharePoint site

Hi all. Does anyone know if it is possible to embed a PowerBI report in an external organization's SharePoint? I.e. I create a report for a client, and the client embeds it in their SP site? I'm not able to parse the existing documentation clearly enough for a direct answer to this question, although it seems unlikely.

    Hey eks03 ,

     

    This would definitely not be a normal use case.  From a purely Power BI/SharePoint technical perspective this would be easy - get the embed link and put that link into the external SharePoint site.


    From a practical and "everything else" experience this would be very difficult.  You will ahve to make sure that you have all sorts of external sharing turned on.  You will have to have licenses in both the internal and external Power BI and SharePoint sites since the external organization is reaching into your organization.  You will also have to make sure you have all the firewalls and "trust" security setup between the organizations.  There are no doubt other security issues and licensing that will be difficult on top of that.  Plus, you will probably have to address how the data will flow out of our your system from the data source(s) which could be difficult as well.


    So, in conclusion, I think while this is theoretically possible, it sure would be tough to implement.

     

    I think it would be way easier to create an internal SharePoint site specifically for those external organization's users and then embed the report there and give those user's permissions to the report.  That will also keep your data more secure.
