Hello,
We have enountered an issue, that when a workspace contributor tries to create an email subscription to a report (from the workspace), the option "Permission to view the report in Power BI" is greyed out thus cannot be toggled.
We have a Power BI Premium subscription, so all end users have access to the Power BI service.
The workspace is hosted in the Power BI Premium capacity.
Attached is a screenshot of the email subscription settings that a workspace contributor gets:
Could you please advise what's missing?
Or is it a bug or something that needs to be addressed?
Thank you!
I'm the admin of the workspace and still cannot toggle this feature. What's the deal there?
Hi @allanw
I understand that you are having trouble with creating an email subscription to a report in the Power BI service. Based on the screenshot you shared, it looks like the option “Permission to view the report in Power BI” is disabled for the workspace contributor.
This is not a bug, but a feature of Power BI. This option is only available for the report owner or the workspace admin. The workspace contributor can only subscribe themselves or other users who already have access to the report. This is to prevent the workspace contributor from granting access to the report to users who are not authorized by the report owner or the workspace admin.
To resolve this issue, you have two possible options:
You can ask the report owner or the workspace admin to grant access to the report to the users you want to subscribe. Then, you can create the email subscription as a workspace contributor and enable the option “Permission to view the report in Power BI” .
You can ask the report owner or the workspace admin to change your role in the workspace from contributor to admin or member. This will allow you to create the email subscription and grant access to the report to any user in your organization.

Hello Nono, Thank you for your reply!
Regarding this explanation... "This option is only available for the report owner or the workspace admin." --
In my case, the contributor is the owner of the report (the contributor created and published the report into the workspace), so the contributor should not run into such an issue, but clearly that is not what we have experienced.
Could you please clarify? Thanks!
