I recently noticed the UI changes when editing semantic models, where I now need to switch from viewing to editing.
However, just this week, I found that when I switch to editing, the semantic model is automatically updated as a large semantic model, even when it's not actually very large. This is fine if the semantic model is in a Premium workspace.
The issue arises with semantic models in a Pro workspace—it does the same thing, causing all related reports to break. It won’t allow you to download, republish, or even open the dataset. Additionally, you can't switch it back to a small semantic model because it's in a Pro workspace.
The only workaround I’ve found is to temporarily change the workspace to Premium, switch the semantic model back to small, and then revert the workspace to Pro.
Is Power BI making semantic model editing a Premium feature, or is this just a bug for now?

Hi @YYPD,
Thank you for sharing this issue. The recent UI changes in Power BI require switching from viewing to editing, which seems to automatically update semantic models to large even in Pro workspaces where this causes access issues.
Currently, Microsoft hasn’t announced any changes making semantic model editing a Premium-only feature. This may be unintended, so I recommend raising a support.

Hi @YYPD When editing semantic models in Pro workspaces, they may unexpectedly switch to large semantic models, which are only supported in Premium, causing related reports to break. The workaround is to temporarily change the workspace to Premium, revert the model to small, and switch back to Pro.You can also try reporting it as a bug to Microsoft Support Team
