#EXT# Email Error Sharing Workspace With External Users

I am trying to add a external user, who has PBI Premium, to a workspace so we can share dataflows with them.

I add them, as in the documentation in the Access part shown below (bottom name here).

However, when closing and reopening the Access pane, the 'normal' email entered i.e. [email protected] goes to johnsmith_outlook.com#EXT#@mycompany.onmicrosoft.com. They do not receive an email with access to the workspace and cannot open the workspace when provided a link.

Has anyone experienced this before or can give me a hand to solve?

Thanks,
Leo

      Hi Jay,

Thanks, this is so close to being the solution.

The only issue I can see is that this all relates to settings within a gateway, whereas our data sources are already cloud base so there is no gateway to configure.

If you have anything beyond this, please let me know!

      Leo

Do you use RLS? If so, you might need to pass the long #ext# email format in any USERPRINCIPALNAME() check.

Edit: wrote this at first but then realized the client already had premium. In our case, we assigned a pro license to him:

When the external user is created in azure, it should send an email for the user to connect to your organization. Did he not get the email? The peculiar email format should not prevent it.
