Downgrade workspace from Premium to Pro

Hi,

Is it possible to downgrade a Workspace's License mode from Premium Capacity to Pro? I spoke with support and they said it was not possible and I would need to delete the workspace and create a new one. The problem is that the datasets in the workspace are used by reports in many other workspaces, so moving them isn't ideal.

Background:

  1. Workspace was created under the Pro license mode.
  2. Datasets and Reports were published to this workspace.
  3. Workspace was upgraded to Premium Capacity license.
  4. Fabric objects (DFG2, Lakehouse, Warehouse) were created in this workspace.
  5. Change in strategy meant moving the Fabric items to another Premium workspace and using original workspace just for reporting.
  6. All Fabric objects are deleted (leaving only reports and datasets).
  7. When I try to change the license mode from Premium to Pro. I receive the following error.

I would just like to double-check that it is not possible to downgrade a workspace before I take any further steps.

Thanks,

Hi @coverturfLSH

As far as I am aware you can downgrade the app workspace as long as there not any Fabric items in the app workspace. I think that there might be something still linked to Fabric items. I would give it a try and see what happens.

I am sure you can always change it back if needed?

Unfortunately, I've tried without success. There are no visible fabric items in the workspace, but I'm guessing there's some artifacts that have stuck around after I deleted the DFG2/Lakehouse/Warehouse. I may see if it's possible to delete in a week or so. I thought I read that the workspace is backed up for that certain amount of time.

Yeah there is something going on behind the scenes!
