Domain Requirements for On-Premise Data Gateways

We will be setting up an on-premise data gateway to connect to the Power BI service.

The documentation says that the standard mode gateway must be domain joined, is this required to connect to the Power BI Service?
>The on-premises data gateway (standard mode) has to be installed on a domain joined machine having a trust relationship with the target domain.

Hello, in my experience this isn't necessary as long as you sign in using the same user into the data gateway on the machine running it. Just install the data gateway, sign in and it should work fine irrelevant of whether the machine is domain joined.

Thanks for the reply.
By same user do you mean an Office365 user? Or is it a local WIndows user?
