Disabled Include in Report refresh but still not working in Service

Hello

Appreciate any inputs. I have a PBI report that is taking long time to load. I made some changes and published to Service. To test the option, I disabled 'Include in Report Refresh' on all the tables except one small table. After publishing to Service and Triggered refresh, it still timed out. I tried disabled load as well as disabled include in report refresh as well.

Note: I made these changes in the Desktop, and closed it without applying changes. Then published it to Service.

You need to apply changes otherwise the changes in powerquery are staged but not committed to the semantic model

Hi @msft-cap

Unfortunately, no, Power BI requires to apply changes (via Close & Apply) before publishing. This is because:

  • "Close & Apply" commits the query edits to the model.
  • Without it, Power BI Desktop doesn’t update the semantic model, and the Service won’t recognize any of your Power Query changes.
  • Even if you modify the Advanced Editor, the data model itself isn't updated until applied.

If the above information helps you, please give us a Kudos and marked the Accept as a solution.

Best Regards,

@Deku thank you. Is there a way to publish the report to Service without relaoding the entire data on desktop after making changes in the advanced editor?
