Direct lake error: you don't have permission to view the content of direct lake table

Hello

I have a direct lake semantic model and a power bi report based on this model.

My organisation has Power BI premium P1 license.

Earlier with Power BI reports based on import model, I was able to share the reports with Power Bi (fabric) free users.

Now I am trying to do the same with power bi report based in direct lake semantic model. The Free user has been given read and readall access to the Lakehouse and read access to the semantic model.

But the users are getting error "you don't have permission to view the content of direct lake table".

Please advise what kind of minimum access is to be given to a free user to be able to see the content of the report.

Please

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

The default semantic model is retrieving data from a lakehouse on demand. To make sure that data is accessible for the user that is viewing Power BI report, necessary permissions on the underlying lakehouse need to be set.

One option is to give the user the Viewer role in the workspace and grant necessary permissions to data using SQL security. Alternatively, the user can be given the Admin, Member, or Contributor role to have full access to the data.

Best regards.

Hello @Anonymous

Thank you for your response.

I gave the 'free' user read access to the underlying lakehouse and that seems to have worked. The user is able to access and view all visuals in the PBI report.

However now I am interested to know how RLS security in semantic model would for this user. Do you have any hints for that ?

Thank you !
