Deploying reports to multiple workspaces

Hi, we’re looking for a way to speed up how we update the same report that exists in different workspaces. Each dataset connects to it’s own SQL database which is different for each report, we use parameters in Power Query to specify the database and schema name.
Currently when we roll out an update we open the pbix file, update the parameters, refresh the data, then publish. It takes1-2 days currently and it feels like there must be a quicker way to do this!
We have tried using a powershell script but there is an error message ‘PowerBIInvalidOrCorruptPbixFileError’ which we are struggling to debug.
In the long term we are looking to consolidate the databases and reports and use row level security, for now we’d appreciate any ideas to help improve our process!
Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi @MarieWo28,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. After reviewing the issue of deploying reports to multiple workspaces, here are a few steps that may help resolve the issue.

  • The PowerBIInvalidOrCorruptPbixFileError indicates a problem with the PBIX file. Verify that the file is not corrupted and saved correctly before running the script. Utilizing the Power BI REST API for automated parameter updates and report publishing can greatly expedite the process, meeting your need for faster updates.
  • Power bi deployment Pipelines can efficiently manage and streamline deployments across multiple workspaces, making them ideal for your needs. Using row level security to consolidate databases and reports is a long-term solution that simplifies management and ensures data security.
  • Verify that the PBIX file is not in use or locked by another process before running the script to prevent errors. Using the Power BI REST API to automate deployment can expedite the process, aligning with your need for a faster solution.

If this post helps, please give us Kudos and consider accepting it as a solution to help other members find it more quickly. Also, if you have any further queries, please feel free to reach out to us, and we will guide you accordingly.

Thank you.
