Deploying a dev semantic model and reports to prod

Hi everyone,

In my Pro license workspace i have :

A prod PostgreSQL datasource -> a prod dataflow -> a prod semantic model -> reports

A dev PostgreSQL datasource -> a dev dataflow -> a dev semantc model -> reports

When updating the PostgreSQL table (new column or table), the edits are in dev, I work on the semantic model and visuals there. Then when the changes to the database are deployed to prod on Git, I'd like to port my dev semantic model and plug it to the prod dataflow, replacing the existing one, so that this new, updated model feeds the prod reports. I would also like potential new reports made in dev to be transferred as well.

Is there a way of doing this ?

Thank you

Hi. There is no way to achieve this with only pro licenses. Due to the fact you are using dataflows, only Deployment Pipelines can handle a deploy to different stage (workspace) automatically like that. That's a Capacity license or PPU feature https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/cicd/deployment-pipelines/intro-to-deployment-pipelines?wt....

The only pro alternative is working with datasets only. Keep your login at a warehouse, datamart or whatever before the dataset. The PowerBi Reports+Datasets can be downloaded and uploaded back. You could move them from one workspace to another with Power Bi Rest API. Then update a parameter that keeps a connection string. That could work as moving from a dev workspace to a prod workspace working with pro licenses.

I hope that helps,
