Deploy a pbix to a WS (Service) via PBI API
Hi
I would like to update a DAX formula of my report Dataset , via this Power BI API
-->https://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/groups/uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu/imports?datasetdisplayname=montest
But I'm afraid that in case of incremental DS, after this kind of deployment... the entire DS will be recalculated? do you agree on this please ? ;<)
I know that AML toolkit tool avoids this inconvenience and also
that afterwards , On service PBI pipeline only modifies metadata (avoids a complete refresh for an incremental DS)
Also, do you agree on this point please ?
Best regards
Christophe
Hi
There is no way to modify pbi artifacts metadata on Servie ... via an api for the moment
We are therefore all waiting for a new powerbi API consisting only of updating the metadata of the artifacts
- Useful for CICD because ALM toolkit is cool but not CICD friendly
- Behave like deployment pipelines that are CICD/metadata friendly
- Update the WS of DEV by managing the case of the Incremental Dataset (do not delete the partitions of the model table)

Hi. I can talk for sure about Power Bi. Yes it will refresh all over again once you published an replace or import. the incremental won't work that first refresh and it will do it all over again one time.
I haven't done that with ALM Toolkit, but it is suposed to let you change metadata of the PBI Service without requesting a refresh, so next time it will still be incremental.
You can read more about those things here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/incremental-refresh-xmlaI hope that helps,
P/D There might be a video of guyinacube about this if you want to follow that.
