Date format will be US format after publishing ...

If you are hosted in US, it will always use US date format on Power BI Service. To workaround this issue, you can try to set the default language on Browser. Please refer to a similar thread below:

The Date type and Format are disable in modeling tab, is that because of direct query connection... ?

It shouldn't be because of direct query. It works for me even with direct query. I'm connceting to SQL Server database.
And btw you should be selecting the date field from fields list before you try to change the format.

In left hand side of power bi desktop , I just have two things( Reports and relationships) because of Direct Query, so if I want to access to the field , I need to go to Edit Queries from Home menu, so I don't have access to modeling tab.
And under Edit Queries , there is only Data Type not format.
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
