I have a number of dataflows that use excel online files as sources. They all have Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents(... as the 1st Applied step of the dataflow, but one of them requires a personal gateway for the dataset, even though the dataflow doesn't, while all the others can refresh without my PC being on, even though it has the exact same 1st step. What could be the reason for this?
There could be a few reasons why one of your dataflows requires a personal gateway for the dataset while the others don't. Here are some possible explanations:
Data source permissions: Check to see if the Excel file that requires the personal gateway has different permissions than the other files. If the file is shared with you but not with the Power BI service or the gateway, it may require a personal gateway to access the data.
Data source size: If the Excel file that requires the personal gateway is significantly larger than the other files, it may take longer to refresh and require a personal gateway to handle the data transfer.
Gateway configuration: Review the configuration settings for the personal gateway associated with the dataset. Check that the gateway is running and configured correctly, and that the correct credentials have been provided.
Network connectivity: Verify that the data source can be accessed by the gateway. Check if there are any network connectivity issues or if the data source is behind a firewall.
By checking these factors, you should be able to identify why the Excel file is requiring a personal gateway for the dataset refresh.
@nickspizza Are they all stored in the same place? Are they on OneDrive or somewhere else?
@nickspizza All I can think of is perhaps one of them is password protected? You could check the Issues forum here:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues
And if it is not there, then you could post it.
If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
Wow, that sends me in a loop. I have a Premium license. When I click on the link you provided then I get to this page:
Then I click on "sign in" which opens up PowerBI service again where I am logged in already. So I try to open a support ticket from there, and it just takes me back to the above page again. Clicking on sign in takes me back to service again.
@nickspizza Hmm, neat. When I click Get Support at the bottom of that page it logs me in and I get this
I'm in, thank you!
