Dataset refresh no longer working

Hello,

Datasets created with Power Bi desktop from a SQL instance running on a VM in Azure and published to Power BI used to refresh fine from the Power Bi service without the need for a gateway (after adding a Microsoft.ServiceBus endpoint service on the VN). From one day to the next and without any changes to the system refreshs are now failing with "Refresh failed due to gateway configuration issues. This dataset requires a properly configured gateway in order to refresh..." For some reason it is now totally set on requiring a gateway ("Data source credentials" is grayed out). Any help would be most appreciated, this really was working without a gateway (we still haven't setup any gateways) and we would like to avoid having to use them. Thanks

    Hi there

    As far as I am aware unless it is a service running directly from Azure you will require a gateway.

    In your example it is a VM in Azure which is not a cloud based service and from my understanding it would require a gateway.
