Dataset Refresh

I tried to refresh my dataset in the app.powerbi, but it hits error or takes very long to refresh. Does anyone knows how can I refresh my powerbi dataset?

Hi. There is an issue with the credentials used for Dynamics365BusinessCentral source. You need to enter them again. If you have a gateway, go to the source and edit the credentials there. If you are connecting directly from cloud go to "Schedule Refresh" setting of the dataset. Look for "Data Source Credentials" section and edit the credentials of the source. Then refresh again.

I hope that helps,

Hi @chloristan_ ,

Go into the settings for the dataset and review your gateway settings and data source credentials. You can try different credentials if applicable. It is hard to say without more detail but there are a number of things that could be wrong here. Perhaps someone was using their personal credentials to authenticate, but now they have left the company? Ideally you would want to use a service account and make sure it has all the required permissions.

Aside from credentials, there are numerous things you can look at to try and optimize refresh times. Just a few of the basic ones are:

1. Review how much data you are pulling into your report. Can you filter it down to a smaller subset of rows?

2. Do you have numerous columns that are unused in your report? Remove them wherever possible.

3. Depending on your data source, there may be timing issues. For example, if you are pulling from a SQL table or stored proc, try to find out if there are other jobs/reports running against that table at the same time you are refreshing. Or, if you have other reports on Power BI Service aall refreshing at the same time you can try spreading them out.

Hopefully that gives you a starting point!
