Dataset || Data Gateway Configuration In Power BI Service

Hi All,

 

We would like to know following details to configure them in better way in our project.

 

what is the email that other developers use to configure their data gateway while its installation? Do they use developer email or any generic email which is not going to be inactive?. The problem that we are facing in our project is , we used developer email while configuring data gateway and when that developer left the organization it is becoming very difficult to manage?

 

what is way you guys follow while configuring the dataset as well? Lets assume, what is authentication method you follow when you configure Azure SQL? we followed developer's active directory based OAuth authentication. In this case also it is becoming difficult to manage when the developer leaves the organization. 

 

Another use case in our project is how do you manage authenticating to Power BI workspance when you call Power BI Dataset refresh using Azure Data Factory.

    Hi powerbi-enginee ,

    Using an administrator's account or a unique account to set up the gateway, rather than using a personal account to configure the gateway can avoid management problems after an employee leaves.

    Hi powerbi-enginee ,

    You could use your Power BI administrator account to configure the gateway, and after successful configuration, you could share the gateway with your developers and grant them the corresponding permissions.

     

    For configure dataset, it depends on the datasource location, need configure gateway for local datasource, for data sources stored in the cloud, a gateway may not be required.
