Datamart issue
Haven't done much with datamarts but will try and recreate the issue.
If you can connect with dax studio but not ssms it sounds like a library issue. Do you have latest ssms installed?
smpa01 when you say data mart I'm assuming you mean the model that sits on top of the sql instance? Really sorry if this is a silly question but have you selected analysis services in the drop down when you first load ssms. It will default to SQL instant normally.

I can run all sort of dax queries on the same datamart (AS db) in ssms; but they simply don't show up in the list of dbs. That is making my life difficult cause I simply want to run an XMLA query to check something in a db which is not downloadable as incemental factored in. So I want to initate some changes through XMLA
