Dataflows (legacy) and licensing

Hi,

Realativly new to PBI, and first post to the community.

Was hoping someone could help me understand why our pro-users cant see the content of a app, while it works fine for premium users.

Our workflow is set up like this:

- Workspace A: Dataflows (legacy) connected to data warehouse - premium workspace
- Workspace B: Prod_ws for larger semantic model connected to workspace A trough import - pro workspace
- Workspace C: Thin reports that go into an app, connected to workspace B trough DirectQuery - pro workspace

I've tried to set it up with WS A as a pro workspace as well, but no luck.
Any ideas?

Hi @emil_pbi - Since you mentioned Workspace B and C are set up in Pro, make sure Workspace B (Prod_ws) and Workspace C (Thin reports) are fully compatible with the licensing level. For Pro users to access content, the workspaces should not contain Premium-only features.

Ensure that Pro users have been given proper access permissions to view the app. In Power BI, even if users have Pro licenses, they must be granted access to the app specifically.Go to the app permissions and ensure that the Pro users are added explicitly under "Permissions" or "Audience" for the app.

Since Workspace C uses DirectQuery from Workspace B, the users accessing Workspace C need appropriate access to the underlying dataset in Workspace B.

Ensure that Pro users have access to both Workspace B (the semantic model) and Workspace C (Thin reports). If they don’t have access to the data source in Workspace B, they will not be able to see the data in the app hosted in Workspace C.

Note: If the data size, refresh rates, or other workspace features exceed what is available for Pro users, consider upgrading the relevant workspaces to Premium per user capacity or Premium capacity.

Hope this information helps.

Thank you for the reply @rajendraongole1!

Indeed the pro-users was not granted access to workspace B, was not aware of the directquery access dependence.
