Dataflows in combination with Incremental Refresh

Hello,

I would need some advice on a special case that we have in our company:

As mentioned in the Microsoft documentation, the feature of incremental refresh is generally available also in the Power BI Pro license model.

But as we are using ONLY dataflows in Power BI to supply data that is coming from a system-based source in our company, incremental refresh is only available with a Premium license.

Now my question is:

We did not plan to roll out the Premium license company-wide. Instead, is it a possible scenario to only buy Premium-per-User licenses for lets say, 5 of our Dataflow developers, and they build the dataflows with that Premium license with incremental refresh included?

Afterwards, storing the dataflows in defined workspaces (Pro workspaces? Or do these have to be premium workspaces) and users with a Pro license only are able to import the dataflow into their reports?

Do I miss something?

Thank you

Johann

    Hi Johann_32 ,

    1. Dataflows are supported for Power BI Pro, Premium Per User (PPU), and Power BI Premium users. Some features are only available with a Power BI Premium subscription (which is either a Premium capacity or PPU license)

The following features are available only with Power BI Premium (PPU or a Premium capacity subscription):

    • Enhanced compute engine
    • DirectQuery
    • Computed entities
    • Linked Entities
    • Incremental refresh

    2. You can connect to any dataflow or table regardless of which workspace it resides in, and whether or not it was defined in a Premium or non-Premium workspace.
