I am using my user account to create a dataflow gen1 in a Power BI Pro workspace. My connection is to an on prem SQL database through an enterprise gateway. The gateway connection has been created using a service account. When I create my query, the data is pulled from the db and shown. When I refresh I get the error: Data source credentials are missing or invalid. Please update the credentials for AzureBlobs.
My research has led me to believe this is because the gateway service account is the one trying to save data to the PBI managed storage area and it doesn't have the access rights, it's a limitation of the service.
Is the only solution to have the same account on both the dataflow and the gateway connection?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The gateway service account doesn’t matter but the data source on the gateway does. The data source needs credentials to the data source and then you need to assign that data source to individuals who are allowed to use it. When those individuals use that data source, they are connecting to the data source with the credential stored on it and not theirs.
Hi @psev66 The gateway's data source is configured with stored credentials that allow it to connect to the data source. When individuals use that data source through the gateway, their access is mediated by the stored credentials rather than their personal credentials.
