Dataflow table with data in it, shows up as empty in PBI report linked to that table

Subject pretty much say it all. I have a query in a dataflow which definitely shows as having data, many rows in fact. I have a PBI report which when I attempt to get this table shows as having no data, and when the connection is completed and I view the contents is empty. I have refreshed dataflow and semantic model countless times while testing out theories (in case you are interested).

I did finally get this to work. I suspect it was caused by a merge I was doing in my dataflow which has been a 1 to 1 relationship, but thanks to a mistake on my part it became a 1 to many, creating a lot of records. When I fixed that problem, this one went away.

I don't see where I can close this ticket, but it can be.

Hi @GarnseyG , @GilG ,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Fabric Community regarding the issue with Dataflow and Power BI Report.

We’re glad the issue was resolved by adjusting the relationship.
Additional steps suggested by @Poojara_D12  and @rajendraongole1 , such as reconnecting the dataflow in Power BI, clearing the cache, checking permissions, and ensuring no Row-Level Security (RLS) exclusions, can help prevent similar issues.

Hi @GilG

If your dataflow shows data but the Power BI report doesn’t:

  1. Check Dataflow: Ensure the final step in the dataflow shows rows and it has successfully refreshed.
  2. Reconnect in Report: Reconnect the dataflow table in Power BI and refresh the dataset.
  3. Clear Cache: Clear Power BI Desktop cache (Options → Data Load → Clear Cache).
  4. Verify Permissions: Ensure your account has access to the dataflow and workspace.
  5. Check Filters: Confirm no filters or RLS are excluding all rows.

Let me know if you need help with any specific step!

Hi @GilG  - If your Power BI report shows an empty table despite the dataflow query having data, the issue could be related to the connection, permissions, or refresh settings

Power BI Dataflows may not display all rows in the preview if the dataset is very large. However, the full data should load into the report after refresh.

powerbi - Why does Power BI table shows ''This table is empty" when data are loaded from a SharePoin...

Confirm your account has at least Viewer or higher access to the workspace containing the dataflow. If the dataflow is shared, ensure row-level security (RLS) is not filtering out data for your user.
