Dataflow refresh issue due to upgrade requirements
- 3 months ago
Hey
A few things to check before spending money on anything.
First, confirm the workspace really is on PPU. In your workspaces list, the name should have a small diamond icon next to it. No diamond means the License mode change didn't actually save. Try setting it again and refresh the page.
Second, after a license mode change, dataflows usually need to be opened in the editor and saved once (Save & close) before they pick up the new context. Then try a manual refresh.
Third, this error usually comes from linked tables, not computed tables. Computed tables work fine on PPU. Linked tables only refresh if the dataflow they link to is also in a PPU or Premium workspace. If yours pulls from a workspace still on Pro, that's your blocker. Open the dataflow, look for tables with a link icon, and either move the source workspace to PPU or replace the linked table with a direct connection to the original source.
If this helped, please mark it as the accepted solution and give it a thumbs up.

Computed tables and linked tables in Dataflows Gen1 require either a Premium capacity (P SKU), Fabric capacity (F64+), or a PPU workspace. A PPU license alone is not enough if the workspace is not assigned to PPU. Go to the workspace where the dataflow lives → Settings → License mode. Make sure it is set to "Premium Per User", not "Pro" or "Shared."
Since you already have a PPU license, you most likely do not need to buy anything new. The error is telling you the workspace itself is no longer on Premium capacity. Open the workspace, go to Settings, then under Premium change the License mode to Premium per User. Save it and the dataflow refresh should work again.
One thing to be aware of: every user who needs to access or refresh content in that workspace must also have a PPU license. If you share it with users that only have Pro, they will not be able to view or refresh.
If this helped, please mark it as the accepted solution and give it a thumbs up.

Hello, thank you for the response!
I went to the workspace settings and I can see that the PPU license is already selected for this workspace. However, since I was on a free trial of a higher license (for almost two years), I am unable to perform the upgrade. Is requesting an upgrade to a Premium capacity account the only solution? I dont want to refactor the workflows.
