Dataflow failure : No Error message provided.

I am encountering a problem with a dataflow that will not refresh in the service.  If i was to go into the dataflow it will process correctly and show the final table, however if i then save and exit and try to fresh i get the error message below.  Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, we found the same issue a few days ago and once agian today... Dataflows that normally take a few mins to refresh are getting stuck for hours... We are raising this issue to Micorosoft to investigate.

I still recieve this error even now in 2025 - what i found the issue appears to be is mass-transformation of columns at once - e.g, attempting to transform 25 columns from type string to type number.

As for why this happens, and removing such transformations fixes the issue, is another story...

Have you ever sucessfuly refreshed the dataflow?

If no - Can you share the full error message that you are getting

Also due to a known transient issue in the backend as per MS this happend when you do not see any error message, ETA is April end 2022.

You can also reach out to Support | Microsoft Power BI for more details

Hi @anselmojg ,

It has been confirmed that this is an issue that has been submitted internally and is not yet fixed.
It would be great if you could share the workaround provided to you by the support ticket team in the future.

Hi @CoffeeAddictMk2 ,

I will also continue to pay attention to this issue for you, if there are any updates, I will be here for your feedback.

Best Regards,

The issue is not yet fixed.

We received a recommendation to reduce the volume loaded by dataflow that read a relatively long past period from our backend database (SAP HANA). The idea is to have one dataflow with the history and another one with the latest period, being this the one refreshed regularly.. Then another dataflow downstream to append both.... In any case, that is what we have been doing for years.... In short, the issue is unresolved..... Most days our dataflows work but so far this month we have had a couple of "crazy" days as a result of this issue.

my understanding of the issue is that it is within the dataflow functionality... i.e. completely unrelated to our data source (SAP HANA)
