Since today, I receive the following, pretty confusing error message when I try to run a dataflow that has no endpoint like a SQL Server (these ones are running fine):
Table_abc: Error Code: Mashup Exception Data Source Error, Error Details: Couldn't refresh the entity because of an issue with the mashup document MashupException.Error: Failed to insert a table., InnerException: Unable to create a table on the Lakehouse SQL catalog due to metadata refresh failure, for Lakehouse Id: 0123ae74-50ad-4fd4-baf6-affac28f73df and Batch Id: 0123ae74-50ad-4fd4-baf6-affac28f73df@e9601b3a-76f8-4da5-b696-3e451c018d4e$2025-12-17T15:00:39.1632534Z@a02e75fc-8661-485b-9490-4b84cac8ca69. underlying error code: 'DmsPbiServiceUserException', error: [error=[code=DmsPbiServiceUserException,pbi.error=[code=DmsPbiServiceUserException,parameters=[ErrorMessage={"error":{"code":"DatamartsUserNotAuthorized","pbi.error":{"code":"DatamartsUserNotAuthorized","parameters":{"ErrorMessage":"User not authorized for datamart"}
I am not using a Datamart or anything like that, the user has all access rights/privileges. The flows worked fine for month until today. Anyone has seen sth. like that?

Hi @NovaBI,
I'm not sure that dataflow gen 2 supports that. That is how dataflow gen 1 worked, but my understanding is that gen 2 needs a destination to put data.
If you have documentation that says otherwise, I would love to read it.
Is there any reason why you are using a dataflow and not just creating a semantic model that excel can connect to?
If you found this helpful, consider giving some Kudos. If I answered your question or solved your problem, mark this post as the solution.

Hi @NovaBI,
This is interesting. Does it work if you reset the destination? You're getting a user not authorizied error, so I'm wondering if a password was changed or a token expired.

Edit the dataflow gen 2 and re-select the destination. That will generate a new token.

@tayloramy I do not have a destination ("no destination" - bottom right in the power query screen). I want the Dataflow to be used from Excel etc. The only connection I see under "connections" is PowerPlatform (based on a Gateway, and this connection I already updated/refreshed)
Hi @NovaBI ,
Thanks for the clarification, and thanks to @tayloramy for the inputs shared earlier.
As mentioned, Dataflow Gen2 is expected to persist data to a destination such as a Lakehouse or Warehouse. Unlike Gen1, a purely destinationless pattern is not a supported scenario.
Since this worked earlier and started failing without changes, this points more to a service side issue than a configuration problem.
A similar behavior has been reported here, which may be useful for reference:

At this stage, raising a support ticket would be the recommended next step so the issue can be investigated from the service side.
Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.
Thank you.
