Dataflow - Enhanced Compute Engine stopped working

Hello everyone,

My dataflows are behaving oddly accross all my Capacities.

A few months ago (Before the fabric annonuement) all my dataflows with the Enhanced compute engine turned on were allowed to use Direct Query and I was able to see the native query when building dataset from them in the desktop. I had the icon that indicated the ehnaced compute engine was turned on.

About a month or so ago we noticed the icon that indicated the enhanced engie was on disappeared on our dataflows when we were building then in Power BI. Query folding doesn't appear to be happening anymore, I cannot create new direct query connects, but the old ones continue to work.

I've tried rebuilding the dataflows, and I've tried full refreshes on the dataflows. But no luck getting the icon back, but the setting is turned on. I not sure what happened, or what has changed but this is seriously affect our performance.

Can anyone offer any insight?

    Hi WTreadway ,

There are a few possible reasons why this might be happening:

    • It is possible that the Enhanced compute engine feature has been disabled in the capacity settings or at the granular level of the dataflow.                                                                                                                                    You can check if the Enhanced Dataflows Compute Engine feature is enabled in the capacity admin settings under the admin portal.
    • Try creating a new dataflow with the Enhanced compute engine turned on, and see if the icon appears for that dataflow. If it does, then the issue may be specific to your existing dataflows.
