Dataflow DirectQuery Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual dataflow directquery

I'm getting the following error message when running a dataflow via a directquery in a dataset published to PowerBI server 'Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual dataflow directquery'.

The same query works fine from PowerBI desktop.

Any idea how to troubleshoot?
