DataSets Query Usage report - Extended events

Hi,

We currently have released an endorsed dataset in PowerBI.com which is quite famous in our organization (shared with ~100 users) and the way they access it mainly is via Excel (Analyze in Excel feature/button).

Is is possible to see how many queries are executed per day and from which user?

For comparison: We have a Tabular instance with another model where we activated ExtendedEvents and have created a Trace of "QueryEnd" event which is saved into a file. In this way we are able to create a report showing how many queries were executed and even more details like: which tables, metrics and dimensions were queried and how long each query took.

I see in this post https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/DataSets-Usage-Metrics/td-p/372893 by urpalani it was answered to use the Audit log, however, this log only shows admin tasks performed on datasets and not really query usage stats.

Also looks like it's possible to do XEvents against an internal PowerBI Report server: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Application-Name-in-Extended-Events/m-p/985808 by vickyd

Any suggestions?

Thanks

      Hi Anonymous ,

      Yes and No.

Our customers love Excel so we have created a PowerBI dataset to which they can connect with Excel and play with the data. We want to see how many users use this dataset, how often, which metrics, how long the queries take etc.

The usage metrics you posted are only for Reports and Dashboards and not Datasets.

So yes, we need usage reports, but not for Reports usage, but for Datasets usage.

Maybe I can propose it as a new feature?

      Thanks,
