Data source extension is missing credentials - Composite Model

Hi,   I've created a new report based on a Power BI dataset and a Dataflow. It works fine running in the Power BI Desktop on my machine. But in the Power BI service I get the error "The data source...

    I love when while looking for an answer I find the solution myself. ğŸ˜‚

     

    The thing I missed was that I needed to insert my credentials for the shared datset AND the dataflow separately. 

    I totally missed that "Edit credentials" is shown two-times.

     

    Thus, the mytsery is solved.

If this error appears after publishing a report to Power BI Service, the cause is simple:
the data source credentials were not configured in the Service.

Fix

  1. Go to the Workspace.

  2. Open the Semantic model (Dataset).

  3. Navigate to File → Settings → Data source credentials.

  4. Edit and re-enter the required credentials.


Why this happens

Publishing a report does not automatically carry over credentials from Power BI Desktop.
If credentials are missing or invalid in the Service, the dataset fails and throws this error.
