Data source error in PBI service for PBI Dataflow dataset

Hi All,

I am getting the following error when autorefreshing my dashboard in PBI Service:

Data source error{"error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_InvalidConnectionCredentials","pbi.error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_InvalidConnectionCredentials","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorCode","detail":{"type":1,"value":"-2147467259"}},{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorMessage","detail":{"type":1,"value":"The credentials provided for the PowerBI source are invalid. (Source at PowerBI.)"}},{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingHResult","detail":{"type":1,"value":"-2147467259"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.CredentialError.DataSourceKind","detail":{"type":1,"value":"PowerBI"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.CredentialError.DataSourceOriginKind","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Web"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.CredentialError.DataSourceOriginPath","detail":{"type":1,"value":"https://api.powerbi.com/powerbi/globalservice/v201606/clusterdetails"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.CredentialError.DataSourcePath","detail":{"type":1,"value":"PowerBI"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.CredentialError.Reason","detail":{"type":1,"value":"AccessForbidden"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.MashupSecurityException.DataSources","detail":{"type":1,"value":"[{\"kind\":\"PowerBI\",\"path\":\"PowerBI\"}]"}},{"code":"Microsoft.Data.Mashup.MashupSecurityException.Reason","detail":{"type":1,"value":"AccessForbidden"}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}} Table: RLS Dataset.

The table/dataset involved is a Power BI Data flow. Help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Pavitravas

When the source credentials in PBI Service were re-entered the refresh succeeded. Thanks for the help.

HI @pavitravas
try below steps and confirm

The error message you're encountering, "Data source error: The credentials provided for the PowerBI source are invalid," typically indicates an issue with the credentials used to access the data source, in this case, a Power BI Dataflow.

  1. Check Dataflow Credentials:

    • Go to the Power Query Editor in Power BI Desktop.
    • Open the dataflow that's causing the error.
    • Check the credentials used for connecting to the underlying data sources within the dataflow. Ensure that the credentials are correct and up-to-date.
  2. Refresh Dataflow in Power BI Desktop:

    • After verifying and updating credentials in the Power Query Editor, refresh the dataflow within Power BI Desktop to make sure there are no issues or errors during the refresh process.
  3. Publish Dataflow to Power BI Service:

    • Save your changes in Power BI Desktop and publish the updated dataflow to the Power BI Service. This ensures that the latest version of the dataflow with corrected credentials is available in the Power BI Service.
  4. Check Dataflow Credentials in Power BI Service:

    • In the Power BI Service, navigate to the workspace where the dataflow is published.
    • Select the dataflow and go to its settings.
    • Verify that the credentials for the dataflow's data sources are correctly configured in the Power BI Service. Make sure they match the credentials you updated in Power BI Desktop.
  5. Check Workspace Permissions:

    • Ensure that users who need to access the dataflow in the Power BI Service have the necessary permissions for the workspace where the dataflow is located.
  6. Gateway Configuration:

    • If the dataflow relies on on-premises data sources, ensure that the Power BI Gateway is correctly installed and configured on the gateway machine. Verify that the gateway connection is healthy and using the correct credentials.
  7. Data Source Permissions:

    • Check the permissions and access rights for the underlying data sources used by the dataflow. Ensure that the credentials used in the dataflow have the required permissions to access the data.
  8. Scheduled Refresh Settings:

    • Confirm that scheduled refresh is configured for the dataset associated with the dataflow. Ensure that the refresh settings align with your requirements, including frequency and credentials.
  9. Test Manual Refresh:

    • Try manually refreshing the dataflow in the Power BI Service to see if the error persists. This can help identify if the issue is specific to scheduled refresh or if it's related to the dataflow itself.
  10. Contact Power BI Support:

    • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to Power BI Support for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance and help diagnose the issue.
