Data source credential keep forgetting my entries

Hello friends,

My model has 13 Data sources published in service.

8 - OData

5 - Simple Excel files in OneDrive for Business (Web)

I went one-by-one and entered the credentials (Odata - Basic, Web - OAuth2)

Everything succeeded................ But!

When I do refresh - it shows error : "The credentials provided for the OData source are invalid"

When I open credentials to check - it shows Anonymous - as if it has forgotten what I entered.

I aslo notice that after I enter the credentials for several sources and click on a source I've already defined - it still shows "Anonymous" (even if I don't refresh)

Feels like a bug to me.

Any ideas? Please? I cannot schedule refresh like this.

Thanks

Michael

Cool Dude,

We can do one thing before going to your problem.

Can u please check with Test connection in Manage Gateway.1.JPG

Try this and let me know .

I go to Manage Gateways and it says:

"You don't have any data gateways" - that's because I don't.

No "test connection" option

My sources are OData and Web (= Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents("https://.....) - no need for Gateway

Some times, very rarely it works, but mostly it keeps forgetting the credentials for some of the sources randomly

Please help

Thanks

Michael

Happy New Year everyone!

Please, I need your help!

The Power BI project is in danger being cancelled by the client because of the refresh that is not working.

It just feels like a bug that could be fixed.

Microsoft team, anybody, please help!

Thanks,

Michael

Hi @Anonymous,

I have ever got the similar issue that authentication method is reset to Anonymous, however, this behavior doesn’t impact the refresh of dataset in Power BI Service.

In your scenario, what is the OData data source?  Ensure that the authentication method your used in Power BI Service is same as that you used in Power BI Desktop.

Besides, as far as I know, the above error can also occur during the refresh process if we pull large data from OData data source. Could you please create a single dataset that only pull limited records from OData data source(for example, 100 records or 1000 records), then publish the dataset to Power BI Service and check if the refresh fails?

Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Hi Lydia,

My sources are 13 OData urls with parameters + 5 OneDrive simple Excel files.

For OData I use Basic authentication and for OneDrive - OAuth2.

All the sources return at most 12 K rows. I have only 35K rows in my model. Tiny.

I publish from Desktop .pbix file (which is working).

**By the way - in Desktop I only have to define the credentials twice - once for OData and once for OneDrive (because it asks on which url level to use credentials and I choose www.highestlevel.com, so that all the sub-pages use the same credentials). I didn't see this convenient option in the PowerBI.com service.**

So, the refresh fails with this error:

"Something went wrong.

There was an error when processing the data in the dataset. Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

Data source type

Processing errorThe credentials provided for the OData source are invalid. (Source at https://www.TheSourceOfMyAPI.com/....)

I go to DataSet credentials and it says:

"Your data source can't be refreshed because the credentials are invalid. Please update your credentials and try again.

There is an X next to 2 of my OData sources (out of 8). I notice it only shows 8 OData sources out of 13, probably because some of the, differ only in parameters with the same url.

Anyway, I go to these two and I see "Anonymous" instead of Basic. So I change, enter the right credentials, it accepts, says "datasource was updated" and the X is removed. So far so good.

I do "Refresh now", it thinks 10-20 seconds and fails again with the same error.

I've tried tens of variations - spent almost three days and nothing....

Folowing your advice - I've tried creating a smaller model with one OData connection and two Excel files and it's working, but it's not helping me, since I need all 13 connections.

Please help. The whole power BI project is in danger since it cannot refresh.

Thank you

Michael

I have a similar issue, with the update of dynamic 365.

The credentials provided for the OData source are invalid.
