Data source & report creation on Service - is it possible?

What I've read seems to indicate that reports and their underlying data files need to be built ONLY within a PBI desktop app, NOT directly on the PBI Service app. Is this still true? If so, what is the solution for Mac users?

Work is being done to get the Power BI Service to feature parity with the desktop app. It depends on what exactly you want to create and which data sources you want to connect to.
