Data set ownership
Hi v-menakakota ,
Thank you for your question. In Power BI, dataset ownership is currently limited to the individual who publishes the dataset, and it cannot be directly assigned to a security group or shared among multiple users as co-owners.
While assigning a security group as Workspace Admin grants the group members access to manage and view the dataset, it does not transfer ownership rights such as modifying credentials or establishing scheduled refreshes tied to a different identity.
The "Take Over" option, as you mentioned, allows another user to assume ownership, but this action replaces the existing owner rather than enabling shared ownership. Unfortunately, Power BI does not yet support collaborative dataset ownership, and this limitation is a known concern for teams managing shared content.
For more details, you can refer to Microsoft’s official documentation. If this feature is critical to your workflow, I recommend submitting an idea or upvoting existing suggestions on the Power BI Ideas forum to help prioritize it for future development.
Hi govind_021 ,
