Data Translation: DeepL API asks for credentials in PowerBI Service, Web.Contents() Status 400

Hello PowerBI community,

I have a "DeepL API Free" Account and calling DeepL API locally in PowerBI Desktop works like a charm.
As soon as I upload to the web and want to schedule a refresh, I get asked for credentials, which seems I cannot overcome. I have entered my auth key and in the web tried all options besides "Service Principal".  "Anonymous" and "Standard" with my deepl-Account did not help.
Have you had any issues or proposals for this? Anything limiting from MS or DeepL side?

Thanks,
Alex2024-03-17 21_14_51-Power BI.jpg

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Here a solution for all others, who face a similar issue:
I put the translation function and all distinguished transformation steps into a Dataflow where I just could ignore the credentials and create an anonymous connection.
Then I simply reimported the Dataflow into my semantic model and as this is not a time critical report this is perfectly fine for this purpose.

Hi, @alexrobe

According to your description, you want to use DeepLAPI in Power BI service but the data validation is wrong, you can try to configure the gateway and keep the gateway on all the time and configure the schedule refresh settings to keep the data up-to-date.

Not sure if going via gateway connection for this web source would help my credentials issue, I anyway tried but the same error
So for my detailed error

Before: just direct web connection via gateway:

 I tried

But same result, even with my deepl account credentials entered.
So the question remains: does MS allow the connection in web service or is it refused on the DeepL-side?
What would be the solution / workaround?
Thanks,
Alex
