Data Refresh Failed

Hi All,

I have my data sets in Server A. On-premises data gateway is installed on server B. I was able to set up the gateway connection. Refresh is scheduled for two times a day. If I manually refresh the dataset, I can see the changes in less than a minute. For scheduled refreshes, it takes a lot of time, and sometimes it fails, and sometimes it succeeds. I am getting the following error message.

Last refresh failed. The gateway is either offline or could not be reached.

The machine on which gateway installed is on and connected to the network all the time.

Kindly help on this issue.

Hi @Jos13

The error is cozed when the gateway is offline at that time, I didn't see other reasons. please kindly follow the suggestions if you can't restart the gateway:

3. If step 1 and 2 failed, restart the computer and then check the status of the service.

4. There is an official trouble shooting document, you can reference: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem-tshoot/

5. Last try: uninstall gateway -> restart computer -> install the newest version. (Please consider the down time if it's a production machine.)

After all, upgrading to the latest version is recommended.

Hi @Jos13

It seems that you need to restart the gateway.

1. Input "services.msc" in the search box. (or use Win + r in keyboard)

2. Restart the service as showed in the picture or start it if it stopped.

Hi @v-diye-msft ,

Status of On-premises data gateway service is "Running". I am not able to start, stop or restart this service as these options are grayed out.

I have attached a screenshot of refresh history for the dataset failed to refresh. The same dataset succeeded the next scheduled refresh. Can you help me to find the underlying cause ?

Scheduled refresh failed for another dataset. But the failure details shown is different. I have attached its screenshot as well.

Hi there

Your errors appear to be because the gateway was offline during the one refresh?

Hi there

What happens when you view the log files on the gateway?

What you could do, is to schedule a refresh, then enable the verbose logging.

Once that is done then view the log files to see why it is failing.
