    Thanks for reaching for Microsoft Forum community, we appreciate your inquiry regarding the Data Model is not opening in Power BI Service" error. Along with the helpful suggestions from SamInogic  , we would like to offer additional methods and best practices:

    • If your dataset is too large, it may take time to load and could result in a timeout error.
    • Please try refreshing the dataset in Power BI Service manually. If the dataset is connected to an external source, ensure that the source is accessible.

    Hi SamInogic ,

    Thank you for your response. I tried all the suggestions you provided, but unfortunately, none of them worked. However, after removing some of the larger datasets & reduce some complexity fucntions and retrying, it worked. I realized that the size and complexity of the dataset were causing the error.

Hi,

The error message indicates an ExternalServiceFailed issue, specifically an "Error in ModelingEngineHost" with a ConnectionException. This usually means Power BI faces a connection issue while loading your data model. Since it worked fine earlier, the problem might be temporary or due to service changes.

Try the following steps:

  • Refresh the dataset in Power BI Service.
  • Check the Power BI Service Status.
  • Republish the report from Power BI Desktop.
  • Try another browser or use incognito mode.
  • If the issue persists, update Power BI Desktop.
