Data Flow refresh failing with Error : Cannot acquire lock for model

Hi,

I have a DF (let me call it DFLNK) with only linked entities. All the entities are from 3 other Data flows(DF1, DF2, DF3)  within the same workspace. Each of the linked entities are refreshed at the same time in their respective data flows. I understand that entities in DF1, DF2 and DF3 can be moved into a single data flow as they are refreshed at the same time. They will be eventually moved in to different workspaces. Hence the structure is retained even if it is in the same workspace.

Data Flow with Linked entities (DFLNK) contains computed entities created by making join operations with entities coming from DF1, DF2 and DF3.

1. I do not want any of these linked entities from DF1, DF2, DF3 in DFLNK to be exposed to other users.

2. I wish to avoid 30 min lag in scheduling to ensure all entities are refreshed in DFLNK as that would eventually mean a delay of 1 hour when I schedule refresh for reports in import mode.

3. I need data from all entities in all the three data flows to be refreshed

Is this even possible?

In the current set up,  I m exposing the linked entities in DFLNK and haven't set up DFLNK for scheduled refresh (as the refresh will get triggered whenever any of DF1, DF2, DF3 refreshes with Enhanced Compute Engine set to "On" for these Data Flows).

However the refreshes are currently failing with error "Cannot acquire lock for model".

Mannu

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. Refer to this:

https://ssbipolar.com/2019/06/21/quick-tip-restricting-access-to-linked-entities-in-power-bi-dataflows/

If the Linked Entity and Calculated Entity are in the same dataflow then the data refresh still occurs. Unchecking "Enable Load" will only hide it from outside the dataflow, so another dataflow cannot use it.

2. When you configure a time for scheduled refresh, there can be a delay of up to one hour before it begins.

3. This is another problem based on the first question, and if there is a limit, you will fail to refresh.

If the problem persists, you could try to create a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free.
