Data Conections on Power BI Service
Hey KarineCruz ,
This sounds like this is not a very dynamic or effective data policy. If you have mutliple folks trying to write reports they can be on their own machines. However, if you are trying to do Enterprise reporting, you need for the data to be in centralized locations where a gateway can access it so that you can use the Service.
If you don't want the Gateway or Data Sources to be part of it, you can always just share the .pbix file with all the other developers and share the data source files as well. This is not a good policy and is rife with security and data corruption issues but will work if everything has to stay local.
This is the real problem. We have a Data Wharehouse but many peoples create reports with excel datas for example.

Hey KarineCruz ,
What if you had an "approved" network share with the Excel files? Or a SharePoint location? Not that this would be very "clean" but it could use the folder option maybe?
If folks are using their computer files and testing with "My Workspace" then why let them make a data source at all? Why not have a rule that "My Workspace" stuff is for whatever they want and they have to refresh on Desktop if they want it to refresh. BUT, part two of the rule is that if you are going to share with others, then you have to use the "approved" Data Sources and that for a Data Source to be approved it will be put on the network or other location that can be added to the gateway and is not isolated to a single person's computer.
