Data Conections on Power BI Service
HI KarineCruz ,
When you publish a report to the service it uploads the data model, including the dataset (now called Semantic Model). Part of the model is every connection that the report is using. And, this means that the data connection is automatically added if it doesn't already exist.
One way around this to add so many is to create the data connections that you want folks to use and then share that connection with those users. That will keep from redundant data connections but with different names from being added.
I do not believe that there is a way to turn this off as this is fundamental piece of the data model and the ability of the report to render.

Hello, Collinq! Thanks for your answer. The problem is that the gateway is centralized on a single server and the server don't have access on the file paths and is not possible configure that data conections.

Hey KarineCruz ,
Hmmmmmm, that is not a very effective Gateway if it can't reach the data sources. I would recommend creating a new gateway or moving the one you have to a server and location where it can do its job effectively. The Gateway is designed to be the conduit between internal data sources and the Service and if you can't do that then you don't really need a gateway since you can't use it.

Exactely. We desabled the personal gateway configuration to try centralize just the gateway on the server.
We only configure gateways for panels that have passed prior analysis by the IT team, for make sure the panels are in accordance with the company internal politics.
But we have about 20 report developer users and they publish the reports in "my workspace" with data sources that are on their personal computers and keep these data sources that the server doesn't have access to.
In this case what do you recommend?

Ask your security guys to establish comminucation between your gateway vm and your source(s).
It should´t take too much time to create a network (firewall) rule to allow this way of communication.- KarineCruz2 years agoNew Member
The files stay in local disc c of the users, so the server don't have access
